As a quality assurance agency operating within the European Higher Education Area, the AAQ undergoes an independent external review every five years in accordance with the European Standards and Guidelines.

The four founding agencies (AAQ, AEQES, CTI, and Hcéres) of the Francophone Network of Quality Assurance Agencies for Higher Education (FrAQ-Sup) have renewed their agreement.

At its meeting on 22 May 2026, the Higher Education Council adopted amendments to the HEdA Accreditation Ordinance, which will enter into force on 15 July 2026. The main changes concern the accreditation standards, the period of validity of accreditation, the applicable time limits, and the application of the revised Ordinance to ongoing and future accreditation procedures.

The Swiss Accreditation Council has appointed Dr Beatrice Windlin as Director of the AAQ. She will commence her position on 1 June 2026.
